Mountain View’s Jackson Potts tops his career with second TOC title (Reser’s TOC 175 pounds)
Last year, Jackson Potts celebrated his birthday by winning his first Reser’s Tournament of Champions title with a last-second overtime takedown.
Saturday, the Mountain View senior capped a more relaxing run with a second TOC title, winning the 175-pound championship at Hillsboro’s Liberty High School with a 7-0 decision over Harrisburg’s Brody Buzzard in a matchup of returning state champions.
“The first one was definitely better,” said Potts, who moved up from 160 this season. “I mean, it was in overtime, so it was a really exciting match. But this one definitely topped off the Reser’s experience.”
One thing Potts appreciated about his win over Buzzard, who was the 3A 145-pound champion as a freshman last season, was that he wrestled what he called “a solid match for the finals. I didn’t really make any mistakes, so I felt good about that. I just stayed with what I do.”
After winning his first state title in the 5A 160 bracket last year, Potts feels as if he’s on track to make a robust defense next month at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
“I just keep it up in the room and see where I’m at, hopefully go get that second title,” he said.
